In a bid to enhance inbox security and combat spam, Google has unveiled a set of fresh requirements set to be enforced from February 2024. These policies are primarily aimed at companies and organizations that regularly send large volumes of emails. Starting February 2024, Google will mandate that senders of more than 5,000 emails per day to Gmail addresses adhere to the following practices:

1. Email Authentication: Bulk senders must authenticate their emails using established protocols such as SPF, DKIM, or DMARC.

2. Streamlined Unsubscription: Gmail will necessitate that bulk senders provide recipients with a one-click unsubscription option and all unsubscription requests must be processed within a two-day window.

3. Spam Threshold: Gmail will introduce a clear spam rate threshold that senders must not exceed.

Google contends that these ‘tune-up’ measures are fundamental email hygiene practices, highlighting that many reputable senders already adhere to them. In the months leading up to the enforcement, Google plans to offer implementation guidance for those in need. To ensure compliance, consider the following tips:

– Utilize a reputable email service provider.

– Regularly clean and update email lists.

– Employ list segmentation to send more targeted and personalized emails.
